1887 – Designed by renowned architect A.L. van Gendt, the Burgerziekenhuis (Municipal Hospital) is commissioned. Its distinctive red-brick façade and Neo-Renaissance architecture quickly establish it as a landmark in Amsterdam East.
1891 – The hospital officially opens its doors, providing medical care to Amsterdam's growing population and becoming one of the city's most important healthcare institutions.
1900 – As Amsterdam East continues to develop, the Burgerziekenhuis becomes an integral part of the Dapperbuurt neighbourhood and the local community.
